This episode the boys wonder if you can judge an anime by its cover. Be aware this episode ends super abruptly, the original recording was like that for some reason.

  1. The episode description is the same as last episode’s.

Should’ve known Meguriai would’ve been the song of the episode. I wasn’t planning on being in tears this evening, but here I am.

The Newtype concept wasn’t just added part way into the series’ production. Even if you don’t trust Tomino’s word, there’s plenty of foreshadowing from early on in the show and all throughout the lead up to the reveal of the term, plot outlines from the series’ early pre-production incorporate the concept, and other staff have stated that was the case. Even within the text you really can’t get any more blatant without just explaining the whole thing outright than when Matilda calls Amuro an esper.

Flame needs to watch more Tomino!

The toy sales where the main reason the show was cancelled, yes. The show’s ratings started off fairly weak at ~4% viewership ratings and slowly climbed until it was considered popular. Critical reception was stellar from the start though and is considered the cause of the show’s increase in viewership ratings as it went along. The reruns of the series in 1981 attained a ratings average of 17.9%, and the 1982 rerun remains the most popular Gundam thing to air on TV, with a 25.7% ratings average.
